Full-Moon Hikes, Forest Therapy and Outdoor Yoga
At these stunning hotels, guests explore the Dolomites' rugged beauty—and themselves

South Tyrol, Italy, July 2019 … These days it's not enough to simply stay at a beautiful hotel with a top-rated spa, although ADLER Spa Resort DOLOMITI and ADLER Spa Resort BALANCE, sister hotels in Italy's Dolomites region, would certainly both fall into that category. Whether it’s for their own personal bucket lists or they just want bragging rights (and a great Instagram post), guests are looking for immersive, memorable experiences like the ones ADLER Resorts have been offering for decades.

Shinrin Yoku (Healing in the Forest) at ADLER Spa Resort DOLOMITI

During this two-hour immersion in the woods, guests will learn the Japanese art of shinrin yoku, which translates roughly to “healing in nature.” They will spend time in the forest exploring their own sensory connections to nature, which can boost immunity and reduce stress. As one guest writes:

I focus on my breath, on the gentle breeze brushing against my face, on the scent of Alpine softwood. I let my sensations take over my mind. When I open my eyes again, I touch the leaves, needles and bark with my bare hands and feet, trying to soak in their fragrance. I approach a tree, embrace it, breathe it, I smell its bark and touch it. I am protected, I am grateful ... I feel recharged, regenerated, and certain that those windows in my souls will never close again.

Full Moon Hiking at ADLER Spa Resort DOLOMITI (2019 dates: July 16, August 16, September 13)
It's one thing to look at the full moon from your hotel room window or even from the terrace after dinner. It's another to take a hike let by Thaddäus Moroder, a former national hang-gliding champion who is ADLER Spa Resort DOLOMITI'S longtime tour guide. (Fun fact: The number of kilometers Moroder has logged hiking with ADLER guests is 40,000, which is equal to circumnavigating the globe once.) One guest who went on the hike describes the experience of seeing the moon for the first time from the mountains:

Behind the mountains, the moon is rising, getting bigger and bigger, like a huge balloon, bathing the night landscape in a surreal light. Truly a full moon! It is said to have 33,000 craters on the side facing us, but even with binoculars they are hard to see. Overwhelmed silence! For minutes on end we stare at the Earth’s satellite, which seems to us – at an altitude of over 2000 metres – to be shining from in front rather than from above.

As the bright white orb begins to blaze in the sky, Moroder, who grew up in a nearby village loves to captivate guests with fascinating stories about the surrounding area. “This profession connects you to unbelievable and wonderful moments,” he says.

Along with its comprehensive spa, ADLER BALANCE is also home to the ADLER MED Health Center, where doctors, nurses and therapists can help each guest create a program that might include prevention and diagnosis of chronic health conditions; stress management; weight loss and nutrition counseling; physical therapy; and dermatological treatments. ADLER Lodge ALPE, an eco-friendly boutique lodge that complies with the Klimahaus Nature standards, is in the Dolomites' Alpe di Suisi ski area. ADLER Spa Resort THERMAE, in Bagno Vignoni, Tuscany, is famous for its complex of naturally fed thermal baths and pools, totaling more than 1,000 square meters. A new hotel, ADLER Lodge RITTEN, recently opened in Lichtenstern.
