PHOTO WORKSHOP IS A GREAT SUCCESS!
At Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain, St. Lucia

St. Lucia, July 27, 2009...Fifteen photographers from all over the world had an opportunity to learn from two of the industry's best at St. Lucia's ANSE CHASTANET and JADE MOUNTAIN Resorts from July 5-12. Joe McNally, internationally acclaimed American photographer and long-time photojournalist conducted an intensive week of small flash education. "There is no more beautiful place to shoot, and to learn about light," says Joe McNally, who has had a longstanding photographic love affair with the resorts.

The educational program was concluded with a special session by industry star Scott Kelby who came in for a very intense, final afternoon class.

The week was an informative, intensive look at the possibilities of small flash, and the nature of what is beautiful light and how to use it to make pictures more eloquent and expressive. Each day involved shooting all around the lush grounds of the resort, working with models, heading into jungle locations for action flash photography of mountain biking. During the "bad light” of the day, classroom sessions were held discussing the theory and the practical use of flash photography. Each day of shooting was followed by a critique of the efforts in the field. The critique sessions spurred further investigation of the practical, fluid use of flash photography and how to improve skills.

Joe McNally is an internationally acclaimed American photographer and long-time photojournalist. From 1994 until 1998, he was LIFE magazine's staff photographer, the first one in 23 years. His most well-known series is the "Faces of Ground Zero - Portraits of the Heroes of September 11th", a collection of 246 giant Polaroid portraits shot in the Moby c Studio near Ground Zero in a three-week period shortly after 9/11. A large group of these historic, compelling life-size (9' x 4') photos were exhibited in seven cities in 2002, seen by almost a million people. The sale of 55,000 copies of the exhibit book, printed by LIFE, raised over $2 million for the 9/11-relief effort.

Scott is Editor, Publisher, and co-founder of Photoshop User magazine, Editor-in-Chief of Layers magazine and is the host of the top-rated weekly video podcast Photoshop User TV, and the host of D-Town TV (the weekly show for Nikon DSLR users). He also is a photographer, designer, and award-winning author of more than 50 books. He is President of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), the trade association for Adobe® Photoshop® users, and he's President of the training, education, and publishing firm, Kelby Media Group, Inc.

This was Scott Kelby's first time in St.Lucia and as he says in his blog, he was extremely impressed: "Can Joe Pick a Workshop Location or What!!!! Our host resort was the fabulous Jade Mountain hotel, which has already become a favorite hideaway of celebrities (which we knew), but what nobody knew until the third day of the workshop was that Travel & Leisure magazine had just named the hotel the #3 best hotel in the world (the first time in history a Caribbean hotel had made Travel & Leisure's exclusive Top 10 List). Believe me; these accolades are well deserved--I've never seen anything like it. Thanks to Nick and Carolyn, the owners of the Jade Mountain Resort, who have created a magical place where you can unwind and relax at a level like no place else. ...."
